The adventure to comics was a tumultuous journey for me. Sure, movies and sci-fi piqued my interest, so why wouldn’t comic books? One character, Booster Gold. How I quickly hated him. Also, starting with The Death of Superman could be a strong reason to stay away from comics when you’re an 8 year old wanting to get into the genre.
Booster completely wimping out and being a general all around worthless character, coupled with the “death” of a beloved comic book icon tends to shatter any notions of wanting to be interested. This was sealed when I was given a “comic book collectors kit” and an issue of Justice League International was included. An ’80s spinoff wannabe superteam had no place in the pantheon of heroes, so I stayed away.
Eons pass, and Phil from Johnny Gigawatt and the Tiger Men from Mars recommended that I check out the series 52. Having only heard about the project of releasing one issue per week for an entire week, I had no idea that the concept had actually been executed in an awesome way, but it also included my most hated comic character.
But Booster Gold becomes totally awesome?!?! How could this happen? What are these people thinking? Did they even read stuff in the ’80s? So I start reading, and Booster is still a loser, but he totally gets his comeuppance in the first trade. I must read more to see how much he is destroyed. But alas, he actually mans up and becomes a decent character. But there were also some other minor characters that were really cool. I also really like the Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps, space cops are so cool. I’m still figuring out what I like, so if you have suggestions send them my way and I’ll be sure to check it out!

Dude, Booster is awesome.
But he was NOT awesome back in the day. He is now, but no amount of money could ever make me like the 80s version.
