Donald Duck (Carl Barks Stories)

Carl Barks’s Donald Duck comics turn a volatile but determined everyduck into the center of family comedy and adventure. Stories can begin with a local problem, then expand through ingenuity, bad luck and competing desires.

Barks gives the characters a durable world, including Duckburg and a widening supporting cast. The best stories balance comic frustration with genuine narrative stakes.

Adventure and comedy coexist: a hunt for treasure or money is also a test of pride, generosity or family loyalty.

Barks’s clear action drawing and expressive poses make complicated plots easy to follow. Background detail gives each location its own comic possibilities.
