Nameless
Written by Grant Morrison. Art by Chris Burnham.
An occult investigator joins a mission to stop an approaching asteroid as nightmares multiply.
Overview
Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham launched Nameless at Image Comics in 2015. A figure known only as Nameless is recruited by wealthy futurists to confront Xibalba, an asteroid on a collision course with Earth.
Violent dreams and cryptic warnings make the mission unstable before it leaves the ground. The story continually questions what the characters can trust about their situation.
Why It Matters
The comic brings cosmic horror to a space-rescue premise. Saving Earth is difficult when perception itself may be part of the threat.
Its disorientation is the point: vast unknown forces are frightening partly because human categories fail to contain them.
The Science Fiction
The asteroid supplies a physical deadline, while occult phenomena suggest a more troubling reality beneath the mission. Technology can carry people toward the threat without making it comprehensible.
The story asks whether investigation remains possible when evidence and nightmare overlap.
Art & Visual Identity
Burnham's intricate, often disturbing imagery makes bodies and spaces feel vulnerable to impossible change. Detail can become a source of dread.
The visual shifts between mission hardware and nightmare logic keep readers unsure where stable reality ends.
