ODY-C
Written by Matt Fraction. Art by Christian Ward.
The Odyssey becomes a dazzling return voyage across the stars.
Overview
After a century-long galactic war, Odyssia and her companions set out for home. Matt Fraction reworks an ancient journey as a spacefaring epic, keeping the pull of return while changing its people and imagery.
Christian Ward draws the series, which debuted at Image Comics in November 2014.
Why It Matters
Its creative force comes from translation rather than simple relocation. Mythic scale, repetition and detour become tools for imagining an unfamiliar cosmos.
The familiar destination gives readers a point of orientation inside an exuberantly strange voyage.
The Science Fiction
ODY-C places gods, war and wandering inside a psychedelic science fiction framework. The collision of myth and technology asks what stays constant when an old story changes form.
Its universe is less interested in engineering plausibility than in emotional and symbolic scale.
Art & Visual Identity
Ward’s saturated color and fluid forms make the journey feel unstable and immense. Figures and environments can merge into sweeping compositions.
The art carries the story’s mythic ambition as directly as the plot does.
